IRVINE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against UC Irvine Thursday night. The draw moves CSUN to 7-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Big West Conference while UC Irvine stands at 8-7-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the league.
The first half saw both teams exchange several opportunities. For Northridge, freshman Heidi Farran rang an attempt off the post in the 27th minute in what proved to be the best chance for either team.
Neither team was able to find a result in the second half. Junior Sydney Vermillion had a nice opportunity late in the half, but saw the Irvine keeper make the save.
In the first overtime, the ball stayed primarily in CSUN's end, though freshman Nancy Avesyan nearly drew a penalty midway through the period and senior Kristal Phillips had a chance that was saved by the Anteater keeper.
The second overtime brought chances for both squads, though neither was able to find a result.
In net, sophomore Leah Elliott made 11 saves for the Matadors, raising her season total to 97, the third-most in school history for a single season. She now has a 1.13 goals-against-average and an .836 save percentage. She also earned her third shutout of the season in the draw.
The Matadors return to action on Sunday when they hit the road to face Long Beach State. Kick off is slated for noon at George Allen Field.
