NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women's softball program has released its 2012 schedule, head coach Tairia Flowers announced. The Matadors will face a flurry of stiff competition in several preseason tournaments before taking on the challenges of claiming the Big West Conference title.

"We're excited to have a schedule that will challenge us throughout the season," Flowers said. "We have a lot of home games, including a home tournament, and I look forward to another always competitive Big West season."

For the third-straight year, CSUN opens the season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., from Feb. 10-12. At the event, which is hosted by Arizona State, the Matadors will face five teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament: Stanford, Syracuse, Western Michigan, Nebraska and Arizona.

The next weekend takes Northridge to Sin City for the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. At the event, which runs from Feb. 17-19, the Matadors will face another two teams from the 2011 NCAA Tournament (BYU, LSU) in addition to some regional rivals in Utah State, Hawai'i and Utah.

From Feb. 23-26, the Matadors get to enjoy another prime vacation destination, Palm Springs. At the NFCA Cathedral Classic, CSUN will face three more NCAA Tournament qualifiers (Texas, California, San Diego State) and renew rivalries with Boise State and Iowa.

The road trip continues for the Matadors the following weekend with a trip down the coast to the San Diego Classic. From Mar. 2-4, CSUN will get NCAA Tournament squads BYU and Fresno State and then battle Utah State, Nevada and San Diego. All of CSUN's game in the tournament will be played at the Santee Sportsplex in Santee, Calif.

The Matadors open their 2012 home schedule in mid-March with the Northridge Classic. The Matadors will welcome Maine, Harvard and Oregon State to the San Fernando Valley for contests from Mar. 9-11. All games will be held at Matador Diamond.

The homestand continues the next weekend when Northridge hosts New Mexico for a three-game series. On Mar. 17, the Matadors and Lobos will play a doubleheader followed by a single game on Mar. 18.

CSUN then stays local for its next week, heading to LMU for a doubleheader on Mar. 25 and hosting Oregon State in a doubleheader on Mar. 28.

The end of March brings the start of the Big West season. CSUN opens at Pacific for three games on the weekend of Mar. 31 and April 1. The Matadors then host UC Davis from April 6-7 and travel to Cal Poly on April 14-15.

A midweek game against UCLA on April 18 offers CSUN a break from league action before it hosts Long Beach State (April 21-22) and Cal State Fullerton (April 28-29).

The final road series of the season takes CSUN to UC Riverside (May 5-6) before the Matadors host UC Santa Barbara (May 11-12) on the final weekend of the regular season.
