NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge softball team (7-27, 2-4 Big West) lost 3-0 to UC Davis Saturday afternoon in the finale of a three-game Big West Conference series. The Aggies' Justine Vela fanned 14 batters as the UCD pitching staff held the Matadors without a run for the entirety of the series.
UC Davis scored twice in the first of CSUN starter Brianna Elder, though only one of the runs was earned. The Aggies added another unearned run in the fifth to complete the scoring. Elder went the first three innings and allowed three hits with one walk and one strikeout for Northridge.
That was all Vela needed, as she struckout every Matador starter at least once Saturday and finished with 24 srikeouts in 15 innings over the weekend. Alyssa Ray had the only CSUN hit on the day, a single down the left-field line.
Mia Pagano closed out the final four innings for the Matadors, giving up only one hit and one walk to go with five strikeouts. With no outs and the bases loaded in the fourth, Pagano struck out the next three Aggies to get CSUN out of a jam.
Northridge returns to action on Easter Sunday with a doubleheader against New Mexico. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. from Matador Diamond.
