NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-42, 5-16 Big West) lost 4-1 to UC Santa Barbara in its season finale Saturday at Matador Diamond. Mikayla Thielges had an RBI single and Mia Pagano had six strikeouts, but the errors undid the Matadors' efforts on senior day.
CSUN scored its first run of the series to pull within one run in the bottom of the third. Thielge drove in Madeline Sale with a base hit up the middle. However with the tying run on third and one down, the Matadors could not bring the tying run to the plate.
Thielges led the Matadors with seven home runs, 22 RBIs, 17 runs, 58 total bases and a .420 on-base percentage on the year. Sale also scored 17 runs on the year to go with three home runs and five doubles.
UC Santa Barbara scored twice in the top of the first on a two-out, two-run home run. The Gauchos added unearned runs in the sixth and the seventh to put the game away. Shelby Wisdom earned her third win of the weekend by scattering three hits with six strikeouts.
Pagano (8-18) allowed eight hits and and two earned runs with one walk. Against league opponents, Pagano went 4-6 with a 2.25 ERA, 38 strikeouts and a .250 opponent batting average in 71.2 innings of work.
Saturday marked the final home game for three Northridge seniors: Samantha Sloniker, Jessica Fridwall and Alyssa Ray. Sloniker successfully executed her team-high 10th sacrifice bunt of the season in the game. The three were honored in a pregame ceremony.
