CSUN Can't Slow Down No. 10 Oregon at Easton Desert Classic

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---

The Cal State Northridge softball team (5-5) lost 12-1 in five innings to No. 10 Oregon Sunday in its final game in Las Vegas, Nev., as part of the Easton Desert Classic. Freshmen Taylor Nate and Taylor Glover teamed to provide the Matadors their only run, but the Ducks got to CSUN pitching early and often in the victory.

Since losing their season opener to Cal Poly, Oregon had not lost and that continued Sunday. The Ducks chased CSUN starter Brianna Elder (4-2) from the circle after just 1.2 innings of work. The junior allowed two hits, three earned runs and three walks in taking the loss.

Aliyah Ricks, Jordan Sauceda and Daphne Pofek all saw time in the circle for CSUN, but none fared much better than Elder. The Ducks were also helped by three Matador errors, which resulted in four unearned runs on the afternoon.

At the plate, Glover singled and came around to score on Nate's double, her first two-base hit of the season. Glover scored her team-leading ninth run of the season and is batting .412 through 10 games in her rookie season.

Crystal Maas and Kaitlin Toerner had the two other hits for CSUN.

The Matadors return to action next weekend with five games in Cathedral City, Calif., as part of the Mary Nutter Classic. At the event, CSUN will face Texas A&M, Long Island-Brooklyn, New Mexico, UNLV and Oklahoma State.
