A veteran both on the field and in the dugout, Caitlin Benyi was named an assistant coach on the Cal State Northridge Softball team prior to the start of the 2010-11 academic year. With the Matadors, Benyi will be responsible for working with both the infield and outfield and will handle recruiting and other administrative responsibilities.
Benyi arrives at CSUN after having spent three seasons at UC Santa Barbara. With the Gauchos, Benyi helped in the development of several All-Big West Conference selections, including the 2008 Big West Player of the Year. She helped UCSB set numerous offensive records during her three seasons with the program.
Prior to her time at UCSB, Benyi was a standout player for the UCLA Bruins. A three-time All-American, Benyi was a member of the 2003 and 2004 National Champions. She led all of Division I with 24 home runs during the 2004 season.
In addition to her playing time with the Bruins, Benyi spent part of 2003 and 2004 playing with the USA Elite team and was a member of the silver medal winning Junior Olympic team at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Beijing, China. She also spent the 2006-07 season playing with the Akron Racers, a National Pro Fastpitch team.
Following her impressive playing career, she stayed with the Bruins as the undergraduate assistant coach for the 2006-07 season. Her job responsibilities included assisting with offensive and defensive development and assisting with administrative duties such as recruiting, travel and scheduling, community service, academics and fundraising.
Benyi has also served as the Director of Operations of BRUWIN Enterprises and has conducted private softball lessons. She graduated from UCLA in June of 2007 with a BA in history.
