NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (6-11) lost 15-2 to Northwestern Saturday afternoon at the DeMarini Invitational on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. Tracy Allen had two hits and an RBI and Mikayla Thielges homered for the second-straight game, but CSUN could not hold on to an early lead as the Wildcats pulled away late.
Northridge actually led this game heading into the top of the fourth. Jaci Carlsen scored on an RBI single by Allen. The RBI was the 10th of the season for Allen and gives her 68 for her career.
However, Northwestern answered with two runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run and never looked back. The Wildcats added five in the fifth and eight in the seventh.
CSUN's other run came off the bat of Thielges, who blasted her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh. She now has a team-high 14 RBIs on the year.
Carly Wade took the loss for CSUN to drop her season record to 1-8. She gave up six earned runs and eight hits in five innings of work. Hannah Fraijo and Ashley Aratow also saw action for CSUN in the circle.
Northridge remains in Orange County for its final two games of the weekend at the DeMarini Invitational. The Matadors face Southern Miss (11:15 a.m.) and No. 14 Stanford (1:30 p.m.) on Sunday, Mar. 5.
