NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (17-18, 1-2 Big West) lost 7-3 in eight innings to UC Davis Saturday afternoon at Matador Diamond. The Matadors rallied from down 3-0 to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth, only to see the Aggies score four times in the top of the eighth to win the series.
With one out in the eighth inning, UC Davis worked three walks and a hit batter off CSUN starter Hannah Fraijo to take a 4-3 lead. Amanda Pitzenberger then came into relieve Fraijo and surrendered three-straight run scoring singles.
CSUN could not respond in the bottom of the frame, going down quietly in order.
Fraijo took the loss for CSUN. She went 7.1 innings and allowed six hits and the seven runs, all of which were earned. She had five strikeouts, but also issued five walks to UCD batters. Fraijo is now 9-6 on the season with a 3.30 ERA and 71 K's.
Dana Waldusky picked up the win for the Aggies, tossing three innings of one-hit softball in relief of Alex Holmes.
At the plate, Northridge finished with six hits, one apiece from six different players in the contest. Freshman Mia Pagano recorded the first hit and RBI of her career while Jaci Carlsen and Jaclyn Rymer each had doubles.
Holmes helped her own cause in the top of the first, connecting on a two out, three-run home run. Northridge scored a run in the bottom of the first when Lauren Olivas connected for her third triple of the season. She then came around to score on a wild pitch.
The Matadors return to action on Saturday, April 10, when they host Long Beach State in a doubleheader at Matador Diamond. The teams will play a single game on Sunday, April 11. Both days are slated to start at 1 p.m.
