Jaclyn Rymer Named Big West Softball Player of the Week

March 23, 2009

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - After finishing the weekend a perfect 8-for-8 at the plate, Jaclyn Rymer earned Big West Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. A Bakersfield native, Rymer batted 1.000 in the Mar. 21 doubleheader at Cal State Bakersfield and also sported a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 27 chances.

In the two games against the Roadrunners, Rymer added four RBIs, including a season-high three in game one, two runs scored and two doubles. Her career-high five hits in game one tied a school record, matching Becky Drake's performance on Mar. 4, 1982 against L.A. Baptist.

Rymer raised her batting average 67 points with the performance and now ranks fourth in the league with a .378 clip. Her on-base percentage of .485 ranks second in the league, trailing only teammate Christina Saenz (.500).

"It feels great to receive this award," said Rymer. "We had a very good weekend and are ready to start conference play. It was especially nice to have that kind of performance in my hometown. I had lots of family and friends at the game and it was nice to see them come out and support Northridge softball."

For the season, Rymer is batting .378 with a career-high 23 runs scored, a team-high 31 hits, four doubles and 15 RBIs. She ranks among the Big West Individual Top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage, runs, hits, stolen bases, walks, defensive chances and putouts.

The weekly award is the first for Rymer, who earned All-Big West First Team honors for her work at first base in 2008 and Second Team honors in 2007. This is the second-straight week that a Matador has received a weekly conference award, as Debbie Duran earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors last week.

Rymer and Northridge open Big West Play on Saturday, Mar. 28 when they host Pacific in a three-game series. The Tigers and CSUN will play a double-header on Mar. 28 starting at noon and a single game on Sunday, Mar. 29 also at noon.
