Aug. 13, 2009
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
A total of 11 home matches highlight the Cal State Northridge women's tennis 2010 schedule, Head Coach Gary Victor announced. In addition to the 2010 schedule, the Matadors will be competing in three fall tournaments, including the Matador Invitational, which runs from Nov. 13-15 at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Victor, who enters his 13th season at the helm of the program, returns a trio of juniors to lead the Matadors into the new season. Brooke Doane earned All-Big West Doubles First Team honors after finishing 2009 with a 20-2 record, all at the No. 1 draw. Nina Jaworowski received All-Big West Singles Second Team honors after posting a 14-8 record and Whitney Paluch posted an 8-15 overall record that included a six-match winning streak.
"I am looking forward to another tough, challenging season in the Big West," Victor said. "We have a strong schedule that will feature several ranked teams to get us ready for the Big West Championships."
Northridge begins its fall campaign by participating in the Fullerton Invitational, which runs from Oct. 9-11 on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. From Oct. 22-25, Victor will take CSUN to the ITA Western Regional in San Diego, Calif.
The Matadors officially open the 2010 season on Feb. 6, when they host the Tritons of UC San Diego at 12:30 p.m. The next day, Northridge squares off against the Ranbow Wahine of Hawai'i in a noon match.
The first road trip of the season takes CSUN to Fullerton to face the Titans at 2 p.m. in the Matadors' first Big West Conference match of the year. On Feb. 13, Northridge heads back out on the road to face Cal State Bakersfield at noon.
Following the Bakersfield match, Northridge hosts three of its next four contests. On Feb. 14, Northridge faces Cal State Stanislaus at 11 a.m., and then hosts its first Big West match with a meeting against Cal Poly on Feb. 20, also at 11 a.m.
A meeting at UC Irvine interrupts the Northridge homestand, as the Matadors head to Orange County on Mar. 6 for an 11 a.m. contest. On Mar. 12, CSUN meets up with South Carolina-Upstate for the first time in school history.
The Matadors' next two matches take them to San Diego, where they will face San Diego on Feb. 14 and Washington State on Feb. 16. Northridge then returns home for its next two contests, facing Wyoming in Mar. 19 and Dartmouth on Mar. 24.
Big West competition marks Northridge's next two matches after a meeting with the Big Green. On Mar. 28, CSUN travels up the coast to face UC Santa Barbara, and on Apr. 1, CSUN hosts UC Riverside. There will be little time to rest for the Matadors, as Northridge welcomes Arizona to the Matador Tennis Complex on Apr. 2.
The team's longest road trip of the season begins on Apr. 4, when CSUN travels to Northern California for three contests, beginning with a march against San Francisco. Two days later, CSUN meets league rival UC Davis and then faces Pacific on Apr. 7.
The final two home matches of the season start on Apr. 10 when Northridge faces defending league champion Long Beach State. The home finale will pit CSUN against the University of Portland on Apr. 17.
For its final regular season contest of the season, Northridge heads to Los Angeles to face Loyola Marymount on Apr. 20.
Following the match against the Lions, Northridge will then head to Indian Wells, Calif., to compete in the Big West Championships, which run from Apr. 30-May 2.
