Northridge Invitational Gets Underway With Day One of Multi-Events

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge kicked off its annual Northridge Invitational with day one of the Multi-Event competition Thursday afternoon at the Matador Track Complex.

Five Northridge athletes competed in the decathlon and heptathlon as Kevin Finley, Derrick Harris and Donovan Toban represented the Matadors in the decathlon and Jordan DuFault and Olympia Jewett competed for Northridge in the heptathlon.

Toban has scored 3,788 points through five events while Harris has 3,496 and Finley has 3,423.

Toban had a solid day in his opening outdoor meet of the season finishing in the top-five of all events on Thursday. In the 100 meters, the Matadors went 1-2-3 as Harris ran 10.95, Toban 11.10 and Finley 11.43.

Toban won the long jump with a best of 22-10.50 while Harris was fourth (20-6.25) and Finley was fifth (20-50.50). Harris then finished fourth in the shot put (38-10.25) followed by Toban in fifth (38-3.50) and Finley in sixth (37-11.25).

In the high jump Toban finished second with a top height of 6-2.25 while Finley was fourth (6-1.25) and Harris was sixth (6-0). Thursday's final event was the 400 meters and Toban ran the fastest time of the 20 competitors at 49.19. Finley was fourth in 51.24 and Harris was seventh at 51.81.

In the four events on the opening day of the heptathlon, Jewett finished the day with 3,119 points with DuFault posting a day one total of 2,538. Former Matador Sherrina Lofton leads the field with 3,319 points after four events.

Jewett took second in the 100 meters in a time of 14.43 while DuFault ran 16.11 to finish seventh. In the high hump, Jewett had the top height at 5-5 while DuFault was 10th with a top jump of 4-8.75.

The shot put saw Jewett finish second with a best throw of 37-6.75 with DuFault fifth at 35-1.75. In the final event on Thursday, the 200 meters, Jewett finished seventh in a time of 26.18 while DuFault was 10th in 27.07.

Lofton finished first in the 100 (14.37), tied for first in the high jump (5-5), was second in the shot put (42-2.25) and second in the 200 meters (25.08).
