Matadors Open Busy Weekend With Season-Best Performances at Cal State LA Twilight Open

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge men's and women's track & field squads opened up a busy week of action Thursday with several season-best performances at the Cal State LA Twilight Open. Several other Matadors opened competition at the annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.

In the sprints for the women at Cal State LA, Le'Shel Vines had Northridge's fastest time as she tied for first in her heat matching her season-best of 12.06. Briana Davis fifth in the section in a time of 12.23, while Samantha Dirks also clocked a season-bets of 12.16 to take first in her heat. In the 200 meters, both a trio of Matador sprinters posted season-bests led by Davis who finished in a Northridge-best 24.77. Vines finished in 24.86 while Dirks clocked a time of 24.91.

The 4x100 relay team of Tiffain Reneau, Vines, Davis and Dirks clocked a season-best of 47.00 to finish third.

In the distance races, Ana Rosales clocked a season-best of 2:15.07 in the 800 meters followed by teammates Vanessa Carr (2:19.38), Natalie Wollaston (2:21.64), Mikeala Vaden (2:23.08) and Annalise Lopez (2:30.45). LeGia Pendergraph posted a season-best in the 1,500 meters after clocking a time of 4:51.04 which left her fourth. Araceli Zainos finished 11th in a time of 5:03.31.

The Matador throwers had a solid meet as Sydney Hubbard posted a season-best in the shot put to finish third. Hubbard tossed a best of 44-5.25 (13.54) while Chelsea Wordell also finished with a season-best mark of 40-0 (12.19). Wordell also bettered her top season mark in the discus with a throw of 141-3 (43.06). Jordan DuFault had a huge season-best in the javelin finishing first in her section with a mark of 117-4 (35.76). in the hammer, Morgan posted a season-best of 150-3 (45.80) while Mariah Counts also posted a season-best of 127-7 (38.89).

For the Matador men's squad, Darquis Rucker ran a season-best 22.58 in the 200 meters and Kenneth Stone PR'd in the 400 meters in a time of 49.91. No CSUN sprinter was able to better their season-bests in the 100 meters.

Cesar Lopez highlighted the effort in the distance races running a Matador season-best 15:59.80 in the 5,000 meters followed by Eduardo Garcia (17:05.51) and Masis Hagobian (17:07.67) who also posted season-bests.

Highlights for the men in the field events were: Gavin Fallen posting a season-best of 158-4 (48.26) in the discus and Jose Avlies tossing a big season-best of 163-7 (49.86) in the hammer.

On the track at Mt. SAC on Friday, Precious Watkins ran a Northridge season-best 11.98 in the 100 meters and Jackie Harrison clocked a time of 54.65 in the 400 meters. Early results on the men's side had Michael Woodham running a time of 10.82 in the 100 meters.
