Mariah Counts qualified for both the shot put and discus at the
Big West Championships (May 12) ... finished fourth in the shot put
after tossing a season-best of 43-7.75 (13.30) in the final ...
also placed eighth in the discus with a top mark of 134-11 (41.12)
... season-best in the discus was 138-6 (42.21) which came in an
11th-place finish at the Steve Scott Invitational (Apr. 29) ...
also had a season-best of 127-7 (38.89) in the hammer ... played
for the Matador women's volleyball team under Jeff Stork in the
fall of 2011.
POWAY HIGH SCHOOL
Counts competed in both volleyball and track & field at Poway
High School in Poway, Calif. ... was an outside hitter for the
Titans for three seasons ... earned team MVP honors in both 2009
and 2010 ... was the team leader in kills and aces as well as being
named Most Inspirational ... competed as a thrower for the track
& field team ... was the CIF champion in the shot put as well
as being named Most Valuable Female Thrower from 2009-11 ...
graduated in 2011 with a 3.2 grade point average.
