DES MOINES, Iowa - Cal State Northridge sprinter Carl Horsley continued his memorable season as the Matador junior advanced to the semifinal of the men's senior 100 meters after running 10.46 at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium.

Horsley, an NCAA All-American in both the 100 and 200 meters, battled tough conditions in Des Moines on Thursday. The junior from Oakland, Calif., finished sixth in heat four running against Olympians Walter Dix and Jeff Demps and NCAA Runner-up Dentarius Locke of Florida State.

Horsley, who was 15th among of 16 who advanced, will move on to the semifinal round Friday where he will run against former Olympic Gold Medalist Justin Gatlin and American record holder Tyson Gay.

Matador freshman Jakayla Daniels also competed in Des Moines, finishing ninth in the women's junior shot put. Daniels tossed a best of 46-2 (14.07) on her first and fourth throws to rank ninth among 18 throwers in the event.
