Fany Alvarado ran four distance events for the Matadors during her freshman season ... ran season-bests of 4:58.56 in the 1,500 meters, 10:55.66 in the 3,000 meters, 19:14.22 in the 5,000 meters and 40:10.72 in the 10,000 meters ... did not compete during the indoor season ... also competed in five cross country meets in the fall, finishing a season-best 40th (23:02.1) at the Northridge Invitational (Oct. 16) ... finished 62nd at the Big West Cross Country Championships in a time of 23:32.3.

TAFT HIGH SCHOOL
Alvarado competed in both cross country and track at William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills, Calif. ... was a three-time MVP of the Toreadors' cross country team and was MVP of the track team as a senior in 2010 ... earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2006-07 ... competed for coach Brian Godsey ... graduated in 2010 with a 3.7 grade point average.
