Solid First Day for Northridge at Cal-Nevada Championships

Ruffin and Stella Dugall both picked up points in the long jump as Ruffin was second with a season-best 19-2.50 (5.85) and Dugall was fourth with a season-best 18-9.25 (5.72). Ruffin earned eight points while Dugall added six team points to the women's tally.
Ralls also took second in the javelin after tossing 152-11 (46.61) while Haylee Varner was a spot back in third with a lifetime-best of 147-5 (44.94).
Tiana Webberley also scored for the Matadors in the pole vault as she earned five points with a fifth-place finish. Webberley cleared a season-best 12-7.50 (3.85) on her first attempt before missing all three attempts at 13-1.50 (4.00) which would have equaled the Northridge outdoor record.
Morgan Bogard finished third in the hammer as she picked up seven points with a mark of 180-6 (55.03).
On the track Saturday, Zitlalic Ley scored in the 3,000 steeplechase while the Northridge women advanced several sprinters to Sunday's event finals.
Ley ran 11:13.85 to claim third place and seven points in the steeplechase.
Sierra Brooks advanced to Sunday's final in the 100 meters after running the fifth-best time, a season-best 12.02. Brooks failed to reach the final in the 200 meters as did Crystal Spears who ran a season-best 25.47. Ruffin ran 55.39 to post the fourth-fastest prelim time in the 400 meters while Desirae Gonder (56.90) and Brenna Hoffman (57.75) did not get past the prelims.
Jasmine Cox ran a blistering 2:12.58 in the 800 meters to shatter her previous personal-best and post the top qualifying time. Erika Gallegos also posted a PR of 2:19.85 but did not reach the event final.
The Cal-Nevada Championships continue on Sunday with field event finals in the triple jump, women's high jump, men's pole vault, shot put and discus. All running events will also be finals.
