After more than 30 years and over 200 meets, Cal State Northridge head coach Don Strametz will host his final All Comers Meet at the Matador Track & Field Complex this Saturday, Mar. 5.
Although the annual All Comers Meets will continue next January, Strametz is retiring at the end of the 2011 outdoor season. He has had a hand in hosting the CSUN All Comers Meets since December of 1979. From 1979 though 1991, Northridge hosted a huge All Comers Meet every December where athletes could qualify for the NCAA Division I and Division II National Championships.
"I look at as a total blessing to the extent that we have been able to do something to give back to the community and the great athletes in this community," said Strametz. "We've had medal-winning Olympians on our track for All Comers Meets all the way down to two-year old's running their first 50-yard dash. It's been an awesome experience to see the range in athletes that have competed here. To have the little kids look up and see an Olympian, to see the expression on their face, it's just been a great experience."
Saturday's final All Comers Meet will begin with the hammer throw at 8:30 a.m. at North Campus Stadium with the first running scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
