Quartet of Matadors Earn USTFCCCA Academic All-America Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - A quartet of Cal State Northridge Track & Field student-athletes were named Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Aug. 6.
For the Matador men, junior Cody Pearce (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS) and senior Nick Saylor (Quartz Hill, Calif./Antelope Valley JC) were among the 260 men's student-athletes honored. Pearce, a Kinesiology major, represented Cal State Northridge in the men's hammer at the NCAA West Regionals in Northridge in May as did Saylor, a Sociology major.
Senior Krystal Quinn (Palmdale, Calif./Antelope Valley JC) and sophomore Sherrina Lofton (Fairfield, Calif./Fairfield HS) were both honored for the Northridge women's squad. In all, a record 468 Division I women's student-athletes were named. Quinn earned a berth in the women's pole vault at the NCAA West Regionals while Lofton qualified in both the 100 and 200 meters.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for the academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
