Casey Hinger Named to AVCA All-West Region Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Cal State Northridge middle blocker Casey Hinger followed up being named to the All-Big West first team last week by being named to the 2012 AVCA All-West Region Team on Tuesday.

Hinger becomes the first Matador to earn AVCA All-West Region honors since Jen Ryan in 2004. The two-time first team All-Big West middle led the conference in blocking this season and was one of nine Big West players who earned All-West Region accolades.

"I'm so appreciative to be recognized when I'm constantly surrounded by so many great players," said Hinger. "The coaches have taught me me so much these last two years, I honestly cannot thank them enough for just giving me this opportunity."

Hinger, a sophomore from Fullerton, Calif., helped propel the Matadors to a 21-10 season, the first 20-win season for a Cal State Northridge team since 1996. She finished the season ranked third on the team with 277 kills (2.52 kps) and was the teams' leading blocker averaging 1.34 blocks per set.

Her season totals of 14 solo stuffs and 133 assisted blocks rank among the best in a single season in Cal State Northridge history. With 133 block assists, Hinger ranks third in the Matadors' rally scoring era (2001-present) and sixth all-time for a single season. In two seasons, she now has 23 block solos and 241 block assists in her Matador career.

"I want to be the best I can be for our team because they deserve it," added Hinger. "We worked so hard this year and we know it's going to take a lot more to get first place next year. CSUN volleyball is only going up from here."
