NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge junior setter Sydney Gedryn and sophomore middle blocker Casey Hinger are both heading to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete at the USA Women's National Team Open Tryouts Feb. 22-24.
The annual Women's National Team tryout will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs.
The purpose of the tryout process is for USA Volleyball to identify prospective athletes for the following two different programs: U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team Program; U.S. Women's National Volleyball Senior A2 Team.
"I've been involved with the national teams for a long time," said Matador head coach Jeff Stork. "I was part of the A2 Team last summer and from what I know of Syd and Casey they would fit into that group very well. I'm confident they will do well, it's a great environment for elite level players.
Hinger was an AVCA honorable mention All-American as well as first team All-Big West following her sophomore season while Gedryn was also a first team All-Big West selection for the second straight season. Both players will be getting their first opportunity at competing at the national team level.
"I think it can open their eyes to possibilities, competitors want a stong competition pool and the process of going through this tryout will be a challenge for them," added Stork. "One of the main things I want for each of them in this process is to continue their growth as athletes."
