CSU Bakersfield Tops Matadors in Five Sets

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Junior Brittany Williams had a season-high 21 kills but Cal State Northridge dropped a five-set non-conference match to visiting CSU Bakersfield, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13 Friday at The Matadome.

With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 11-13 while the loss drops the Matadors to 7-16.

Williams tallied her season-high while committing just five errors in 38 swings to hit a solid .421. Northridge's leading hitter Angela Hupp added 13 kills but hist just .184. Hupp also added 16 assists, eight digs and seven blocks. Puneet Pataria also reached double figures in kills with 10 (.053). Sam Orlandini notched a double-double with 25 assists and 15 digs and Monica McFarland had a team-high 17 digs.

For Bakersfield, Lindy DeGeare put down a team-high 14 kills (.130) and Alysia Baker added 12 kills while hitting .409.

The Matadors wound up out-hitting the Roadrunners .200 (56-26-150) to .192 (57-25-167) and out-blocked CSUB 16.0 to 9.0. The Roadrunners did have 10 aces to six for the Matadors.

Cal State Northridge returns to Big West action next Tuesday, Nov. 3 as the Matadors wrap up their four-match homestand against UC Santa Barbara.
