Jan. 12, 2010

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's volleyball program and head coach Jeff Stork announced the signing of Natalie Allen and Mahina Haina to National Letters of Intent to play for the Matadors. Allen and Haina will enter Cal State Northridge in the fall of 2010.

Allen, a 6-1 opposite hitter from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, Calif., was the Southwestern League Most Valuable Player as well as an all-league selection in 2009. She helped lead the Nighthawks to a 27-3 record and a league championship last season. Allen, who finished second on her team with 265 kills and a .415 hitting percentage, was also a first team all-league selection from 2006-2008 as well as an all-academic pick in 2009.

"Natalie is an outstanding volleyball player," said Stork. "One can describe her as an all-around player, as her back-row skills are equal to her front-row skills. She has been a primary passer and a go-to hitter on all the teams she has played for. Natalie's been extremely successful at every level of play whether it be high school or club. She was a major contributor on her team (951 Elite) that won the Junior Olympics last year."

Haina, a 5-11 outside hitter from Iolani High School in Honolulu, Hawai'i, was named honorable mention on the 2009 AVCA Under Armour All-America Team. She was also named a first team All-State outside hitter by the Honolulu Advertiser and was a Fab 15 pick by the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Haina's list of accolades in 2009 also includes ILH Division I Player of the Year and Division I All Star first team honors by the Honolulu Advertiser. She also competed for the Raiders in basketball, track and water polo.

"Mahina is another dynamic volleyball player," said Stork. "She's an outstanding offensive player and has a great aptitude for defense. She can play the game at a fast pace with precision. I think both Natalie and Mahina understand the game very well, they both have played a long time and understand the subtleties of the game. It's going to be huge to have these two players in our gym."
