Northridge Drops Fourth Straight, 30-14, 30-23, 30-27 at No. 18 San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Val Kepler had a team-high 10 kills, hit .368 and added four blocks but Cal State Northridge dropped its season-high fourth straight match, 30-14, 30-23, 30-27 to the 18th-ranked San Diego Toreros at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 7-3, while the Matadors slip to 3-8.

Kepler, a junior from Simi Valley, was the only Northridge hitter to reach double figures in kills as the Matadors were held to a .175 (34-16-103) hitting clip as a team. Junior Kristy Nua, playing in just her second match of the season, added seven kills (.190) and freshman Brittany Williams chipped in six kills (.235). Fellow freshman Alex Johnson registered four kills, six digs and four blocks.

For USD, Laurel Abrahamson (16) and Amy DeGroot (15) combined for 31 of the Toreros' 57 kills. San Diego hit .358 (57-18-109) as team and out-pointed the Matadors 67.0 to 43.0.

After a disastrous first game in which Northridge hit -.029 to .419 for USD, the Matadors settled in to hit a solid .308 in game two and .241 in game three.

Cal State Northridge looks to snap its four-game skid later this evening as the Matadors take on Pittsburgh in San Diego at 5 p.m.
