Northridge, Calif. – The nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge water polo team hits the road again this weekend.
Last week, the Matadors traveled to the UCSB Invitational for four games. This week, CSUN changes direction and heads to the Riverside area to compete in the Cal Baptist Invitational on Saturday, February 4.
Cal State Northridge, ranked 20th in the nation, will play three games in one day starting with a 9:15 a.m. contest against sixth-ranked Arizona State. Then at 1:00 p.m., CSUN faces #13 Hartwick followed by a 6 p.m. contest against Pomona-Pitzer.
The Matadors opened the season last weekend at the UCSB Invitational with a 10-4 victory over Cal State Bakersfield followed by three losses to then #17 UCSB (6-9), then #10 Indiana (7-8) and then sixth-ranked UC Irvine (4-9).
Jenny Jamison, Leah Janke, Lindsy Nelson and Marisa Young have combined to score 22 of the team's 27 goals this year. Jamison, a sophomore, scored eight goals in the four games against Cal State Bakersfield, UCSB, Indiana and UC Irvine. That included four goals against Indiana. Janke has six goals.
Cal State Northridge will continue its road trip with an appearance at the UC San Diego Invitational (February 11-12); at the UC Irvine Invitational (Feb. 25-26) and at the Cal Lutheran Invitational (March 2-3) before opening its home season against Bucknell and Occcidental on March 13.
Several Big West Conference schools are nationally-ranked in this week's CWPA national poll. UC Irvine is ranked seventh, followed by #14 UC Davis, #15 Long Beach State, #16 UC Santa Barbara and #20 Cal State Northridge.
