#13 Hartwick Defeats #20 Cal State Northridge, 14-11, In Overtime

Riverside, Calif. – Cal State Northridge rallied from a seven-goal deficit in the fourth quarter but eventually fell to 13th-ranked Hartwick, 14-11, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Cal Baptist Invitational.

After three quarters, the Matadors (ranked 20th in the nation) trailed Hartwick, 11-4. But CSUN mounted a rally led by freshman Marisa Young who tallied four of the team's seven fourth-period goals.

Trailing 11-7, Young scored at the 4:48, 3:06 and 2:33 mark of the fourth period to cut the Hartwick lead to only one goal, 11-10. Young's fourth goal of the period came with only one second on the clock in regulation.

However, in the first overtime period, Hartwick scored two goals. The Hawks added another goal in the second overtime while holding CSUN scoreless in both overtime frames.

Young scored five goals to lead the CSUN attack.

The victory gave Hartwick a 1-1 season record. Cal State Northridge fell to 1-5.

At 6 p.m., the Matadors will close the day's three-game tournament with a contest against Pomona-Pitzer.

Earlier in the day, sixth-ranked Arizona State jumped to a 2-1 first period lead and never looked back in eventually recording a 10-5 victory over Cal State Northridge at the Cal Baptist Invitational.

The game was relatively close throughout the first three periods. ASU led 2-1 after one period, 5-3 at halftime, and 7-5 after three periods. However, the Sun Devils outscored the Matadors, 3-0, in the final frame to win, 10-5.

Four Matador players found the back of the ASU net. Lindsy Nelson scored two goals while Melissa Doll, Jenny Jamison and Marisa Young each collected a goal.

Seven different players scored for Arizona State.
