#19 Cal State Northridge Defeats #15 Hartwick, 10-8

La Jolla, Calif. – Lindsy Nelson scored a goal with 1:49 goal to play to insure #19 Cal State Northridge a 10-8 victory over #15 Hartwick College in a first round game on Saturday morning at the UC San Diego Invitational.

Three goals by freshman Marisa Young increased her team-leading goal total to 14 for the 2012 season.

The CSUN-Hartwick contest was close throughout. The Matadors held a 2-0 lead after the first period, thanks to goals by Jenny Jamison and Young.

The game was tied at halftime, 4-4.

Three goals by Jamison, Melissa Doll and Young gave the Matadors a 7-6 lead after three periods.

Cal State Northridge increased its lead to two goals, 9-7, with 6:23 to play. But the Hawks fought back to within one goal, 9-8, with 6:11 to play. Nelson, however, sealed the win for CSUN with her only goal of the game with 1:49 remaining.

Dana Harvey collected ten saves as goalkeeper for Cal State Northridge.

The victory avenged a 14-11 overtime loss to Hartwick last weekend at the Cal Baptist Invitational.

The Matadors, 3-5 for the season, continue tournament play at 5:20 p.m. against ninth-ranked San Diego State. The Aztecs, earlier in the day, defeated Sonoma State, 18-2.
