Irvine, Calif. – Third-ranked UCLA scored early and often, and the Bruins' defense held Cal State Northridge in check in posting a 13-4 victory during first day action on Saturday morning at the UC Irvine Invitational.
The Bruins jumped to a 2-0 first period lead and added another four goals in the second frame to take a 6-0 half time lead. UCLA then exploded for six more goals in the third period. The Matadors, ranked 17th in the country, scored their first three goals of the game in the third period on scores by Melissa Doll, Celena Photopulos and Lindsy Nelson.
UCLA raised its season record to 9-1. Cal State Northridge fell to 3-9.
The Matadors return to action at 5:45 p.m. to face the loser of the Hawai'I vs Michigan game at the UCI Aquatics Complex.
