#14 Cal State Northridge Overwhelms Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-4

Thousand Oaks, Calif. – Cal State Northridge, ranked 14th in the nation, finished its dominance at the Posada Royal Invitational at Cal Lutheran University with a 10-4 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon.

"I am definitely happy with the results of the tournament," said head coach Dr. Marcelo Leonardi. "The confidence we gained at the recent UC Irvine Tournament certainly carried over into this tournament."

In Saturday afternoon's win over Cal State Monterey Bay, the Matadors jumped to a 3-1 first period lead and extended the margin to four goals with a 5-1 lead at halftime.

Sophomore Jenny Jamison led a group of six CSUN scorers. Jamison collected four goals. Freshman Marisa Young added two goals.

Senior goal keeper Dana Harvey collected nine saves in three periods of play. Freshman goal keeper Kiernan Davis added four saves in the final period.

The victory was the fourth straight for Cal State Northridge to increase its season record to 8-11. Cal State Monterey Bay fell to 8-8.

In the four wins over the two-day tournament, the Matadors outscored the opposition, 56-16. After scoring a 15-6 victory over Concordia (Irvine) and a 15-3 pounding of Fresno Pacific on Friday, and the 10-4 decision over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon, the Matador offense remained in high gear earlier on Saturday as CSUN recorded a 16-3 verdict over St. Francis (NY).

It was certainly a career day for freshman Alex Hoetker. Hoetker, who hails from Sunny Hills High School (Fullerton, Ca), recorded a season-high four goals to pace the Matador attack over St. Francis (NY). Hoetker had entered the tournament with only one goal but on Saturday morning she led a parade of ten Matador scorers who tallied at least one goal.

Fifteen of the team's 16 goals were scored by either freshmen or sophomores. Kelcie Ferriera, Alex Hoetker and Marisa Young are all freshmen who contributed eight of the team's 16 goals. Ferriera and Young each scored two goals.

Melissa Doll, Molly Henehan, Jenny Jamison, Lindsy Nelson, Carson Nestler and Celena Photopulos, who are all sophomores, accounted for seven of the team's 16 goals.

Dana Harvey, a senior, and Kiernan Davis, a freshman, split time in goal for Cal State Northridge. Harvey played the first half and recorded six saves. Davis recorded five saves in the second half.

The Matadors scored five goals each in the first and second periods to take a 10-0 halftime lead.
