#13 Cal State Northridge Defeats Bucknell (14-4), Occidental (19-6)

Northridge, Calif. – Lindsy Nelson scored eight goals in leading 13th-ranked Cal State Northridge to two victories over Bucknell (14-4) and Occidental (19-6) in a pair of non-league games on Tuesday afternoon at Campus Pool.

 In the first game of the day, Nelson scored a season-high five goals to lead Cal State Northridge to a 14-4 victory over Bucknell University in the home opener.

After the Matadors opened the game with a 3-2 first period lead, CSUN lashed out for four second period goals to take a 7-3 halftime lead. Two of the four goals were scored by Nelson.

Cal State Northridge extended its lead by outscoring the Bisons, 5-0, in the third period to take a 12-3 lead.

Melissa Doll, Kelcie Ferriera, Molly Henehan, and Jenny Jamison each scored two goals for the Matadors.

In the nitecap, Nelson added three more goals to pace the Matadors to the 19-6 decision over Occidental.

Against Occidental, ten different Matador players scored at least one goal. Freshman Marisa Young scored a team-leading four goals to give her a team-leading 38 goals for the season.

The Matadors raced to a 4-0 first period lead and increased the margin to 9-2 at halftime. Another six goals in the third period gave CSUN a hefty 15-4 lead.

Cal State Northridge has now won six straight games to increase its season record to 10-11. Occidental fell to 15-3.
