San Diego, Calif. – Cal State Northridge ended the two-day San Diego State Invitational on a winning note with a 17-11 victory over Bucknell University on Sunday afternoon.
Under cold and blustery winds at the Aztec Aquaplex on the San Diego State campus, the Matadors put the game out of reach at halftime. Holding a 4-3 lead after the first period, Cal State Northridge outscored the Bison, 5-1, in the second frame to take a 9-4 halftime lead.
Cal State Northridge raised its record to 11-14. Bucknell fell to 10-18.
It was the second straight victory over Bucknell in the last six days. Last Tuesday (3/13/12) at CSUN, the Matadors posted a 14-4 decision over the Bison.
Earlier in the day, eighth-ranked San Diego State stormed to a 6-1 halftime lead and never looked back in posting a 10-6 victory over 12th-ranked Cal State Northridge.
The Matadors held their own in the second half, outscoring the Aztecs, 5-4.
Molly Henehan and Lindsy Nelson provided the scoring punch for Cal State Northridge. Each sophomore scored two goals.
