#19 Cal State Northridge Claims #4 Seed at Big West Tournament

Northridge, Calif. – Cal State Northridge, ranked 19th in the nation, has claimed the #4 seed in the upcoming Big West Tournament (April 27-29) that will be played at the Ted & Rand Schaal Aquatics Center at UC Davis.

Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State and Pacific each finished fourth in the conference regular season standings with 1-4 records. However, the Matadors earned the fourth-seed in the Big West Tournament based on the best goal differential (+3) in conference games against the other tied teams. Cal State Northridge will play fifth-seed Long Beach State on Friday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m. Third-seed UC Santa Barbara will face sixth-seed Pacific at 5:15 p.m.

If Cal State Northridge wins its game on Friday (April 27), the Matadors will face top-seed and sixth-ranked UC Irvine on Saturday (April 28) at 2:30 p.m.

But first, the home portion of the Cal State Northridge regular season will come to an end on Sunday, April 22, 2012, when the Matadors host Cal State San Bernardino and La Verne in a pair of non-league games. The game against Cal State San Bernardino will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the contest against La Verne at 2:00 p.m.

The game between CSUN and La Verne will be the second contest between the two teams. At the Roadrunner Invitational on March 24, the Matadors recorded a 17-6 decision over the Leopards. Cal State Northridge recorded a season-high eight goals in the third period to cruise to victory. Melissa Doll and Jenny Jamison each scored four goals to lead the CSUN attack. Dana Harvey and Kiernan Davis split time in goal. Harvey collected five saves while Davis had seven saves.

Before the start of the Cal State Northridge vs Cal State San Bernardino game, three seniors (Jessica Goforth, Dana Harvey, Heidi Pettinger) will be honored for their contributions to the Matador water polo program.

Jenny Jamison
and Marisa Young continue to be 1-2 in scoring for Cal State Northridge this year. Jamison has tallied 62 goals (#5 for a single season in school history) while Young has scored 56 goals (#9 for a single season in CSUN history).

Freshman Kelcie Ferreira has 65 steals this year, sixth-best for a single season at Cal State Northridge. Kristin McLaughlin (68 steals) resides in fifth place.
