San Diego, Calif. – For the fourth time this season, Cal State Northridge played UC San Diego in women's water polo.
Earlier this year against UC San Diego, CSUN scored a 13-6 victory (1/26/13) at the UCSB Invitational, a 9-7 decision (2/10/13) at the UCSD Invitational, and a 9-6 verdict (2/24/13) at the UC Irvine Invitational.
However on Saturday morning at the Aztec Invitational at the Aquaplex on the San Diego State campus, the #17 Tritons scored a 7-6 victory over the #13 Matadors.
After CSUN took a 3-1 lead with 3:55 left in the second period, thanks to two goals by Marisa Young and a score by Melissa Doll, UCSD's Sarah Lizotte scored three straight goals and Alexis Wieseler added a goal to give the Tritons a 5-3 lead with 4:06 left in the third period.
Celena Photopulos chipped away at the UCSD lead with a goal at 3:18 of the third period to make the score, 5-4, in favor of UC San Diego.
However, Wieseler added her third and fourth goals in the fourth period to give UCSD a 7-5 lead.
Photopulos scored with ten seconds left in the game to make the final score … UC San Diego 7, Cal State Northridge 6.
