Four Fourth Period Goals Lead to CSUN Victory, 9-6

Northridge, Calif. – Four Cal State Northridge goals in the fourth period helped the 13th-ranked Matadors to a 9-6 victory over 20th-ranked Pacific in a Big West Conference women's water polo game on Saturday afternoon at Matador Pool.
   
CSUN jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 1:47 minutes of the first period. Marisa Young scored two of those goals. The Matadors added a Leah Janke score with 3:12 in the first period to make it 4-0, CSUN.
   
After CSUN held a 5-2 lead at halftime, Pacific marched back to outscore the Matadors, 2-0, in the third period to make the score, 5-4.
   
The Tigers continued their offensive momentum to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:32 remaining in the contest.
   
However, CSUN's offense took charge in the final period. Taitum Herrington, Leah Janke, Celena Photopulos and Marisa Young each scored a goal. Young's goal at 3:48 remaining proved to be the game-winning goal to give the Matadors a 7-6 lead.  
   
Marisa Young led CSUN with three goals. Leah Janke added two goals.
   
Kiernan Davis had 12 saves.
   
The victory raised CSUN's season record to 20-8 and 2-1 in the Big West Conference. Pacific to 15-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
