#13 Cal State Northridge Travels to #9 Long Beach State, #7 UC Irvine

Northridge, Calif. – Cal State Northridge, ranked 13th in the nation, steps up in competition when the Matadors travel to ninth-ranked Long Beach State and seventh-ranked UC Irvine in Big West Conference competition this weekend.

On Saturday (4/6/13), CSUN travels to Long Beach State in a noon contest. The following day, the Matadors travel to UC Irvine for a noon contest.

The Matadors have won five straight games to raise its season record to 20-8 overall and 2-1 in the Big West Conference.

Lindsy Nelson is the team leader in goals scored with 60. That figure is fifth-best in the Big West Conference, only six goals behind league leader Monika Eggens from the University of Hawai'i. Nelson's 60 goals are ninth-best for a single season at Cal State Northridge.

Marisa Young has 43 goals, second-best on the Matadors, and eleventh-best in the conference.

Kiernan Davis has collected 231 saves, third-best in the conference and eighth-best for a single season at Cal State Northridge.

Long Beach State has enjoyed an excellent season with a 21-4 record and 2-2 in the conference. Chelsea Parks leads the 49er attack with 49 goals, seventh-best in the Big West Conference. Parks had five goals in LBS's 10-8 overtime victory over Cal State Northridge earlier this year (2/10/13). Lindsy Nelson's goal with 3:20 to play gave the Matadors an 8-7 lead, but the 49ers tied the game with 2:55 left on the clock and eventually sent the game into overtime at 8-8. Long Beach State scored a goal in each of the two overtime periods while CSUN was held scoreless.

UC Irvine is 15-7 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Anteaters, ranked seventh in the nation, have been ranked in the Top-10 throughout the 2013 season. UCI was ranked sixth in the pre-season. Hannah Croghan and McKenna Mitchell are the team's top scorers with 34 and 32 goals, respectively. Jillian Yocum has 183 saves, fifth-best in the conference.

UC Irvine hosts top-ranked USC on Saturday before hosting Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
