Second Half Surge Carries CSUN to 8-7 Win Over Pacific

Irvine, Ca. – Melissa Doll pushed across a score with 13 seconds to play to lift fifth-seed Cal State Northridge to an 8-7 consolation semifinal come-from-behind victory over eighth-seed Pacific on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Big West Conference Tournament at the UC Irvine Aquatics Complex.

The Matadors fought back from a 4-2 deficit to the Tigers with 6:07 to play in the second half.

CSUN took the lead at 2-1 in the first period thanks to goals by Leah Janke at 6:21 followed by a Marisa Young score at 4:51.

But three straight goals by Pacific, including two by Elise Martin, gave UOP a 4-2 lead at 6:07 of the second period.

Jenny Jamison scored with 4:24 in the second period but Pacific still held a 4-3 lead at halftime.

Katie Kammer put CSUN in front for good with two third period goals to give CSUN a 5-4 lead.

Goals by Molly Henehan and Jamison's second goal of the contest gave CSUN what seemed to be healthy 7-5 advantge with 3:39 remaining in the game. But within a span of 90 seconds, UOP goals by Martin and Taylor Adair tied the contest at 7-7.

But Doll pushed a lob shot over the head of UOP goalkeeper Michele Relton from the left side, and the ball slowly sailed into the goal net for the CSUN game winner.

Pacific had one last chance with a 6-on-5 opportunity but CSUN snuffed out UOP's last chance at tying the game.

Kiernan Davis collected 13 saves for Cal State Northridge. The Matadors are now 22-12 while Pacific fell 60 16-15.
