#7 CSUN Sets School Record for Consecutive Wins – 21-12 over Concordia (Ca)

Northridge, Ca. – Cal State Northridge captured its eleventh straight victory, a new school record, with a 21-12 decision over Concordia (Irvine) in a non-league women's water polo game on Sunday night at Matador Pool.

Talent and depth wore down Concordia. Eleven different CSUN players scored at least one goal in the nine-point decision that raised the team's record to 19-5. Marisa Young scored a career-high six goals while Lindsy Duncan collected three goals. Three other players (Kelcy Barott, Mackenzy Fowler, Celena Photopulos), tallied two goals.

Cal State Northridge broke the game open in the fourth period. Leading 14-10, the Matadors dented the Concordia nets with seven straight goals to take a 21-10 lead with 3:12 on the clock.

Earlier in the day, the Matadors scored a 12-10 come-from-behind victory over Hartwick College.

The Matadors were pushed to the limits by a very good Hartwick team. Sami Capparelli scored the first of her five goals to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead at the 7:21 mark of the first period. Fourteen seconds later, Lindsy Duncan scored her 200th career goal for the Matadors to tie the game at 1-1. At the 3:30 mark of the first period by Hartwick's Devon Boyle pushed the Hawks in front again at 2-1. Katie Kammer and Molly Henehan pushed CSUN in front, 3-2, but with only one second on the first period clock, Capparelli tied the game at 3-3.

Two more goals by Capparelli helped Hartwick build a 6-4 halftime lead.

CSUN tied the game in the third period. Goals by Melissa Doll and Kelcie Ferreira tied the game at the 5:54 mark. Again Hartwick moved in front on Cayley Tonkin's goal, but back came Northridge with a 7-7 tying goal by Marisa Young at 4:22.

Then with 29 seconds remaining in the third period, Henehan scored her second goal of the game to give CSUN an 8-7 lead.

Hartwick wouldn't back down. Again Capparelli scored for Hartwick to tie the game at 8-8 with 6:53 in the fourth period.

Henehan's third goal of the game gave CSUN a 9-8 advantage with 6:37 to play.

Again, Hartwick refused to fold. Katie Ermakova scored at the 5:23 mark to tie the game, 9-9.

But in a 2:34 span starting at the 4:56 mark of the fourth period, Doll, Ferreira and Young each scored a goal to give the Matadors a little breathing room at 12-9.

Kiernan Davis produced 12 saves for Cal State Northridge.
