#8 CSUN Falls To #5 UC Irvine, 11-5

Northridge, Calif. – Despite three goals from senior Jenny Jamison, eighth-ranked Cal State Northridge fell to fifth-ranked UC Irvine, 11-5, in a Big West Conference women's water polo match on Sunday afternoon at Matador Pool.

The defeat dropped the Matadors into second place in the conference with a 3-1 record. The Anteaters, who have beaten CSUN nine straight times, took over first place with a 4-0 mark.

UC Irvine opened the scoring with a goal by Hannah Croghan with 6:05 left in the first period. One minute later, Melissa Doll tied the game at 1-1.

But three straight UCI goals gave the visitors a 4-1 first period lead. Two of those goals were scored by Jesse Cardey who ended the game with five goals.

Jenny Jamison scored the first of her three goals to push the Matadors to within two goals, 4-2, at the 3:02 mark of the second period. But again, the Anteaters pushed across three straight goals to expand their lead to 7-2 at halftime.

Cal State Northridge fell to 22-7 overall. UC Irvine is 18-9.

The day ended on a bright note. Five Matador seniors (Melissa Doll, Lindsy Duncan, Molly Henehan, Jenny Jamison and Celena Photopulos) were honored for their outstanding contributions to the growing tradition of Matador water polo, and more importantly, their success in the classroom.
