CSUN Wins Two Games At Cal Baptist Invitational

Riverside, Ca. - The Cal State Northridge women's water polo team completed a successful first day of competition at the Cal Baptist Invitational on Friday.

In the first game, the Matadors opened the 2010 season with a convincing 18-6 victory over Azusa Pacific.

Eleven different Matador players found the back of the oppositions net. Senior Kirra Kylander led the CSUN attack with three goals. Kylie Sarpa, Whitney Delgado, Alison Pierce, Renee Gargiulo and Sydney Sonoda each collected a pair of goals.

Cal State Northridge held a 5-4 lead after the first period, but the Matadors broke the game open with five goals compared to one for Azusa Pacific in the second period.

The onslaught continued in the third period when the Matadors outscored Azusa Pacific, 4-0.

Senior All-American Jillian Stapf collected seven saves.

In the second game of the day, the Matadors defeated Claremont-McKenna Scripps College, 13-4.

Sydney Sonoda led the CSUN offensive attack with three goals. Torrey Kylander added a pair of goals. In all, ten different CSUN players scored at least one goal.
