Riverside, Calif. - It was indeed a good weekend for the Cal State Northridge women's water polo team.
The Matadors finished the two-day Cal Baptist tournament with two wins on Saturday including a 10-9 victory over Cal Baptist, and a 13-2 decision over Fresno Pacific.
In the first game of the day, Chelsea Curran scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 7:06 seconds to play in the fourth period to give unbeaten Cal State Northridge a 10-9 decision over Cal Baptist.
The Matadors led 9-6 after three periods and Curran added an insurance goal early in the fourth period to give CSUN a 10-6 lead. But Cal Baptist scored three straight goals in the final four minutes in the final period to make the game close.
Jillian Stapf collected seven saves in goal.
In the second game of the day, it was no contest as Cal State Northridge raced to a 4-1 first period lead, 5-2 at halftime, and 10-2 after three quarters.
Bethany Scamara scored a career-high three goals (all in the third period) to lead the Matadors to victory. Eight different Matadors scored at least one goal in the win.
