Cal State Northridge Captures Seventh Place At UCSD Invitational

La Jolla, Ca. - An 8-3 victory by 12th-ranked Cal State Northridge over 19th ranked UC San Diego gave the Matadors a seventh place finish on Sunday at the Triton Invitational.

Cal State Northridge jumped to a 4-1 halftime lead. UC San Diego cut the margin to two goals, 5-3, with 6:51 remaining in the game before the Matadors scored three unanswered goals.

Kristin McLaughlin led the Matador attack with four goals while Kirra Kylander added two more. Two of McLaughlin's goals came in the first period as CSUN raced to a 3-1 lead.

In the first game of the day, 13th-ranked UC Irvine scored a 8-5 decision over Cal State Northridge. The Anteaters took a quick 3-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game, but the Matadors cut the margin to one goal, 3-2, after one period.

However, UCI scored four unanswered goals for a 7-2 lead with 3:14 left in the third period.

Freshman Whitney Delgado led the Matadors with three goals.

The Matadors, 4-6, travel to top-ranked USC on Sunday, February 15. The game starts at noon.
