#13 Cal State Northridge Defeats Cal State Bakersfield, 13-11

La Jolla, Ca. - Whitney Delgado scored a career-high seven goals to lift 13th-ranked Cal State Northridge to a 13-11 victory over Cal State Bakersfield during first round play on Saturday morning at the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego.

Delgado scored a previous-high six goals last year against Arizona State.

The victory was close from start-to-finish. Both teams were even (2-2) after the first period, but the Matadors enjoyed a 6-4 half time lead. The Roadrunners shaved CSUN's lead to only one goal (9-8) after three periods.

Four other Matador players scored goals with Sydney Sonoda adding three goals and Melissa Doll collecting two goals.

Cal State Northridge will continue play on Saturday afternoon with a 2:40 p.m. game against sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount at the Canyonview Pool. LMU scored a 14-6 victory over Cal State East Bay earlier today. The winner of the CSUN-LMU game will play on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Triton Pool. The loser of the CSUN-LMU game will play on Sunday at 9:50 a.m. at Triton Pool.
