San Diego, Ca. - For the second time this season, 16th-ranked Cal State Northridge fell to fourth-ranked Hawaii.
This time, it was a 9-5 loss at Saturday's Aztec Invitational at San Diego State. Earlier this year at the UC Irvine Invitational, the Matadors fell to Hawaii, 12-5.
Hawaii jumped to a 2-0 lead after the first period, but the Matadors made it a game at halftime with the Rainbow Wahine only leading 5-4.
The game remained competitive after three periods with Cal State Northridge only down, 7-5, to the Rainbow Wahine.
But Hawaii outscored Cal State Northridge, 2-0, in the final period to secure the 9-5 victory.
In the second game of the day, Cal State Northridge dropped a 14-11 decision to tenth-ranked San Jose State. The game was tied 3-3 after the first period of play. The Spartans held a slim 8-7 lead at halftime.
Both teams were tied at 10-10 after three periods, but San Jose State rallied for four goals in the final period to only one for Cal State Northridge.
Tournament action continues on Sunday when Cal State Northridge plays 18th-ranked UC San Diego at 10 a.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. contest against San Diego State.
