Northridge, Calif. - The nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team opened Big West Conference play with a convincing 12-3 decision over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Matador Pool.

The game was never in doubt. Cal State Northridge, ranked 15th in the nation, jumped to a 4-0 first period lead, and expanded the margin to 8-1 at halftime. In fact, CSUN scored the first six goals of the game before Pacific scored a goal with 3:46 left in the first half.

On Sunday at noon, the competition gets a bit tougher as eleventh-ranked UC Davis invades Matador Pool. Their first meeting of the season was a non-league game at the recent UC Irvine Invitational. The Aggies scored a 8-7 victory. Jessica Coy and Tara McGinley each scored two goals for the Matadors.

Before Sunday's game against UC Davis, former Matador and all-time leading scorer Alison Brookes will be presented the Academic Momentum Award by The National Consortium for Academics & Sports and Scholar-Baller.
