Matadors record 10-8 comeback win vs Cal State Bakersfield; falls to LMU, 9-4

Westchester, Ca - Jessica Coy scored a team-high four goals to lead the 14th-ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team to a come-from-behind 10-8 victory over Cal State Northridge during Saturday afternoon non-conference action at the Loyola Marymount Mini-Marathon.
Down 6-5 after three periods of play, the Matadors turned to Coy for offensive production and she performed like a champion. Coy tired the game at 7:24 of the fourth period after the Lions went ahead 7-6 at 6:55, Coy again tied the game 20 seconds later.
Cal State Bakersfield took the lead, 8-7, 16 seconds later, but Coy scored her third goal of the period (and the game) at 5:50 knot the contest at 8-8. Coy then put Cal State Northridge in the lead for good at 2:02, and Allison Brookes added an insurance go with 1:10 remaining.
In the first game of the day, eleventh-ranked Loyola Marymount claimed its seventh straight victory with a 9-4 decision over Cal State Northridge. A 6-on-5 goal by Allison Brookes cut the Lions lead to 3-2 just under three minutes into the second quarter, but LMU's defense would allow the Matadors only two more goals the rest of the way.
Cal State Northridge returns to action with three games next week. The Matadors travel to eighth-ranked UC Irvine on Wednesday (4/2/08, 7:00 p.m.), then host second-ranked Stanford on Friday (4/4/08, noon) and San Jose State on Saturday (4/5/08, Noon).
