#10 CSUN Sets New School Record With 25th Season Win
April 11, 2010
Northridge, Calif. - Not only did tenth-ranked Cal State Northridge record a decisive 17-5 victory over Chapman College in the home season finale on Sunday afternoon, the Matadors also set a single season school record with their 25th win.
In defeating the Panthers, Cal State Northridge bested the previous school record of 24 wins set during the 2003 season (24-8).
Super sophomore Whitney Delgado led the Matador attack with a game-high five goals to give her 68 for the season. Her 68 goals is third-best for a single season in school history behind only school record holder Chari Christopher with 74 set during the 2005 season, and Allison Brookes with 72 goals set during the 2006 campaign.
Delgado has three more regular season games and three games in the Big West Tournament to break the school record.
The Matadors held a 4-2 after the first period, and broke the game open with a five-goal outburst in the second period to take a 9-3 half time lead.
Nicole Concialdi played the entire game in goal and collected 13 saves.
The Matadors are now 25-6 overall and in first place in the Big West Conference at 3-0.
Earlier in the day, Katie Outzen scored a career-high three goals to lead Cal State Northridge to a convincing 16-3 victory over Whittier College in a non-league game at Matador Pool.
Outzen had entered the game with only three goals the entire season, and two goals last year. Outzen's goals came in the second, third and fourth periods of play.
The Matadors raced to a 5-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Cal State Northridge led 10-1 at halftime.
In addition to the school record for most wins (25) in a season, the Matadors also set two single season records during the weekend ... CSUN has scored 323 goals this year, breaking the old mark of 311 set during the 2008 campaign ... The team assists record was also broken ... The old mark was 296 set in 2009 but the new school record on this year's team is 303 ... Whitney Delgado's 68 goals this year gives her a two-year total of 103, seventh-best in school history ... Pam Barba (2002-04) resides in fifth place with 105 career goals while Christine Cruz (2005-07) is in sixth place with 104 goals.
