Nationally-Ranked Matador Women's Water Polo Team Hosts UC Santa Barbara, Cal Baptist

Northridge, Calif. - The nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team returns to the friendly confines of Matador Pool for two games on Saturday.
The first game at noon is a Big West Conference game against UC Santa Barbara, ranked 15th in the nation. This will be the second meeting of the year between Cal State Northridge (ranked 14th in the nation) and UC Santa Barbara. In a non-league game (2/7/09) at the UCSD Invitational, Kirra Kylander scored three goals and Jessica Coy and Chelsea Curran each chipped in with two goals apiece to lift the Matadors to a 10-7 decision over the Gauchos. Jillian Stapf had ten saves in goal.
At 5:00 p.m., a non-league game will feature Cal State Northridge and Cal Baptist. Earlier this year (1/31/09), Northridge tallied a decisive 15-3 victory over Cal Baptist. Tara McGinley scored a career-high four goals while Coy, Curran, Whitney Delgado and Renee Gargiulo each scored two goals. Stapf collected ten saves.
Senior Jessica Coy continues to lead the Matadors in scoring with 44 goals. Her scoring totals this year are third-best (1.57 gpg) in the Big West Conference. Tara McGinley and freshman Whitney Delgado are ninth and tenth, respectively, in the conference in scoring with 30 goals (1.07 gpg) and 26 (0.93 gpg).
In four seasons at Cal State Northridge, Coy has scored 150 goals, third-best in school history.
Jillian Stapf is averaging a league-leading 11.56 saves per game. In two-plus seasons at Cal State Northridge, Stapf's 301 saves are approaching her school record of 348 saves set last year. Stapf has collected a school record 924 career saves.
