Jillian Stapf Wins Big West Player of the Week Honors

Northridge, Calif. - Jillian Stapf, who led nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge to three wins last weekend, has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week by the leagues coaches.
In wins over ninth-ranked UC Irvine (7-5, 4/18/09), Sonoma State (11-4, 4/19/09) and Cal State San Bernardino (17-6, 4/19/09), Stapf collected 31 saves, including 14 against UCI.
Stapf is averaging a league-leading 11.68 saves per game. In two-plus seasons at Cal State Northridge, Stapf's 364 saves breaks her previous school record of 348 saves set two seasons ago as a freshman. Stapf has collected a school record 987 career saves.
Stapf will lead the Matadors, ranked 13th in the country, into this weekend's inaugural competition at the Big West Conference Tournament at the University of Pacific.
The Big West Tournament will air live on BigWest.TV, the conferences' internet video-streaming initiative in association with CBS College Sports. Thanks to the University of the Pacific, the conference will be able to broadcast all seven matches of the tournament beginning on Friday, April 24, at 4:00 p.m. pt. Cal State Northridge, with a season record of 20-14, continues to dominate the league scoring stats. The Matador defense has given up only 7.09 goals per game, tops in the league. Jessica Coy continues to lead the Matadors in scoring with 54 goals. Her scoring totals this year are fourth-best (1.59 gpg) in the Big West Conference. Tara McGinley (39,1.15 gpg,, Sydney Sonoda (35, 1.043 gpg, Whitney Delgado (32, 0.94) and Kirra Kylander (32, 0.94 gpg) are ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth, respectively, in the conference in scoring.
In four seasons at Cal State Northridge, Coy has scored 160 goals, third-best in school history.
