Jessica Coy, Sydney Sonoda, Alison Pierce, Jillian Stapf Honored By Big West Conference

Northridge, Calif. - Jillian Stapf, who set two school records while playing goal for the nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team, has been named first team All-Big West Conference in a vote of the league coaches on Wednesday afternoon.

Stapf, one of the nation's top goalkeepers, collected a school record 387 saves during the 2009 season. Her saves per game average of 11.61 was tops in the Big West Conference.

In 22 games, Stapf had ten or more saves including a career-high 20 against UC Davis (3/29/09) and 19 in the season opener against San Jose State (1/24/09). Stapf has 1,012 career saves in three years at Cal State Northridge, a school record.

Jessica Coy, who led the Matadors in scoring with 55 goals, was named second team all-league. Coy's 55 goals were fourth-best in the league this year, and fifth-best for a single season in school history. Her goal totals included a career-high four in games against Princeton (3/13/09) and against Indiana (3/16/09).

Coy ended her four-year Matador career with 160 goals, third-best in school history.

Sydney Sonoda also gained second team all-league honors. Sonoda was third on the Matadors in goals scored with 37. Her scoring efforts included a career-high four in games against Cal Lutheran (3/7/09) and against Cal State Monterey Bay (3/8/09).

Pierce, who gained honorable mention all-league status, collected 27 goals, seventh-best on the team. Pierce tallied a career-high three goals against Pacific (3/28/09).
