Matador Men Sixth, Women Eighth at Season Opening San Francisco Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Cal State Northridge opened the 2013 cross country season Saturday at the 21st USF Cross Country Invitational at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow. The Matador men placed sixth in the 8k while the women were eighth in the 5k run.

CSUN went into the season opening run with largely new rosters. On the men's side, of the 13 runners on the roster, nine are new to the squad while the women had six new runners in the lineup.

Returner Marcelo Rosales led the men with a 29th-place finish in 28:16.2. Martin Santillan was a spot back in 30th in 28:22.6, Julio Mora was 31st in 28:24.9, newcomers Dylan Haerle was 32nd in 28:31.2, Zach Stiegler was 35th in 29:13.3 and Alfredo Robles placed 37th in 29:27.8.

The men's contingent posted an average time of 28:33.64.

For the CSUN women, lone returner Alexis Pichardo was 40th in 19:52.2, Megan Magdaleno was was 48th in 20:34.4, Annie Weiss was 49th in 21:03.6, Victoria Olaiz was 50th in 21:08.4, Nicole Reitveld was 51st in 21:09.4, Rachael Duriez was 52nd in 21:21.5 and Kristen Tapia was 53rd in 22:22.9.

The Matador women posted an average time of 20:45.60.
