CSUN to Honor Coach Pete Cassidy at Men's Basketball Game on Feb. 19

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Athletics will honor Matador Men's Basketball coaching legend Pete Cassidy when CSUN hosts Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Feb. 19 at The Matadome. At halftime, a special ceremony will be held to celebrate the life of the Matador Hall of Fame coach.

Cassidy was the longest-tenured head coach in Matador history, leading the team for 25 seasons where he collected a program-record 335 career victories. The Matadors won four conference championships and earned three postseason berths at the Division II level during his time at the helm. Cassidy would also guide CSUN through its transition to Division I in 1990.

Before embarking on a coaching career, Cassidy was a team captain on the first two basketball and baseball teams at CSUN, then known as San Fernando Valley State College, from 1958-60. Cassidy returned to his alma mater in 1966 to take on an assistant coach role with the men's basketball program.

During his coaching tenure, Cassidy produced nine All-Americans, 45 All-Conference honorees, six CCAA Player of the Year winners and six future Matador Hall of Famers.

In addition to his coaching, Cassidy also taught physical education for decades while at CSUN.

Cassidy was inducted into the Matador Hall of Fame in 2004.
